Where is the Infectious Disease Unit?
The Infectious Disease Unit is located on the second floor of the brown block.

What is the Infectious Disease Unit?
The Infectious Disease Unit is a 21 bedded mixed ward that deals with community and hospital acquired infectious diseases. Patients are admitted to this ward from the Accident & Emergency Department and also as planned admissions.

Who will look after me?
A team of nurses managed by Mr. Robert Schembri, Nursing Officer, who is assisted by his deputy, Mr. Frank Mifsud, will look after the patient whilst in the ward.

This ward benefits from the clinical expertise in infectious diseases management provided by Dr. C. Mallia Azzopardi and Dr. T. Piscopo.

Meal times
Patients have the opportunity of ordering their lunch and dinner from an established menu. A staff member will go around the patients in the morning so the order is taken. The food that will be ordered will be for the next day.

Breakfast: 7.30am to 8.30am
Lunch: 11.30am to 12.30pm
Dinner: 5.30pm to 6.30pm

Visiting Times
Monday to Sunday (including public holidays):
11:30 to 13:00 (2 visitors at any one time)
15:00 to 20:00 (2 visitors at any one time)

Due to the nature of the ward, it is advised that pregnant women and children do not enter the unit.
Special permits for visiting outside the established visiting hours may be given to relatives at the discretion of the Nursing Officer.

Contacting the ward
To speak to the nurses on the ward, one may call on 2545 6070. Nursing staff will not give detailed medical information over the phone to protect patients’ right to confidentiality.
