Observation Ward is located at level -1, red block.

What is Observation Ward?
Observation Ward is an admitting ward, consisting of a 16 - bedded mixed ward. The ward is divided into two 4 bedded rooms with television and telephone facility, and an 8 bedded room without television and telephone.
Patients are admitted to this ward mainly from the Emergency Department or transferred from other wards.

Who will look after me?
A team of nurses managed by Ms. Lucienne Brincat, Charge Nurse, will look after the patients whilst in the ward.
There are 8 A&E consultants who may have patients in this ward; these include Dr. Patrick Farrugia, Dr.Anna Spiteri, Dr. Michael Spiteri, Dr. Allan Drago, Dr. Jonathan Joslin, Dr. Konrad Borg, Dr. Robert Chircop and Dr. Agnes Portelli. Nonetheless, the ward caters for all the other hospital Consultants, including medical, surgical, urology and orthopaedics.

Meal times
Due to the high turnover of patients in this ward, lunch and dinner is delivered according to availability, as a patient may be discharged or transferred to another ward during his/her stay at any point in time.

Breakfast: 7.30am to 8am
Lunch: 11.30am to 12.30pm
Dinner: 5.30pm to 6.30pm

Visiting times
Official visiting times are:
Monday to Sunday (including public holidays):
11:30 to 13:00 (2 visitors at any one time)
15:00 to 20:00 (2 visitors at any one time)

Special permits for visiting outside the established visiting hours may be given to relatives on the discretion of the Charge Nurse.

Contacting the ward
One can contact the ward on 2545 3930 or 2545 3932. Nursing and clerical staff will not give detailed medical information over the phone to protect patients’ right due to confidentiality.
