Louis Grech was born in Hamrun on the 22nd of March 1947. He studied at the University of Malta and in 1970 he was awarded a Rhodes Scholarship to study at Balliol College, Oxford. He has three children, Xandru, Francesca and Luisa from his marriage to Marija nee Ganado.
In 1973, Louis Grech was one of the pioneers in the setting up of Air Malta. At first he was responsible for management and organizational strategy, industrial relations and personnel as well as holding the post of corporate secretary of the company. He later became General Manager and CEO of the same airline.
Louis Grech served as director in several other banks and companies including the Central Bank of Malta, Bank of Valletta and The Malta International Airport.
In the European Parliament elections of 2004 and 2009, Louis Grech was elected as Member of Parliament. His positive showing led to his nomination as his party’s Head of Delegation to the European Parliament. Grech held this seat until his election to the Maltese House of Representatives in 2013.
Deputy Prime Minister Louis Grech is also Minister for EU Affairs and is responsible for the implementation of the Government Programme.
