Chaplaincy Services

How can a Chaplain help in a hospital setting?

Chaplains listen with concern. Listening is precious gift. People can have their emotions a bit scrambled when faced with uncertainty, stress or apprehension. This may in turn lead to other uncomfortable feelings that one may experience or even throw on those near you. Unloading such feelings of worries and woes relieves people; which in turn aids their physical and emotional healing. Chaplains offer these spaces through compassionate listening and confidentiality.
As a Chaplain talks to you, he might ask some questions that can help you understand and name feelings or situations that are present in your life. Through this conversation the Chaplain can assist you in:
  • Support
  • Guidance
  • Healing & Comfort
  • Reconciling

Where is the Chapel and at what time is mass celebrated?

The Roman Catholic Chapel is located on the ground floor, behind the Main Entrance. It is a quite place for worship, prayer and reflection. Everybody is invited to this sacred space – hospital staff, patients and relatives. The Chapel has a permanent Eucharistic adoration. It opens at 6.00am and closes late at night.
Mass is held daily from Monday to Friday at 6.30am, 7.00am and 12.00 noon; Saturdays at 6.30am, 7.00am and 7.00pm; Sundays at 6.30am, 7.15am and 12.00 noon. On Sundays two additional masses are celebrated in the wards. Communion to patients is distributed daily between 2.00pm and 3.30pm.

What if I belong to a different religious tradition?

The Chaplains keep close links with communities of other denominations (such as the Muslim Imam, the Protestant Pastors and the Jewish Rabbis). There is also a Multi-faith room, located in Block C level 12 for those who wish to worship in hospital.
