Where is MAU4 (Medical Admission Unit 4)?

MAU 4 is located on Floor 1 of the Brown block.

What is the purpose of MAU4?

MAU 4 is a 23 bedded female ward, dealing with patients awaiting long-term-care. Our patients await transfer to SVPR or other nursing homes and are transferred to MAU 4 directly from other wards not from casualty. Age bracket of patients are mainly over 70 years old.

Who will look after me?

A team of nurses, carers and ward clerk managed by Mr. Ronald Borg (Ward Manager) and Mr. John Cassar (Departmental Manager). Consultants are various and can be anyone working at Mater Dei Hospital.

Meal times

Patients have the opportunity to order their lunch and dinner from an established menu. A staff member will consult with each patient in the morning to collect the order. The food that is ordered will be for the next day.
Breakfast: 8.00am to 8.30am
Lunch: 11.10am to 12.30pm
Dinner: 5.10pm to 6.30pm

Visiting Times

Official Visiting times are:

Monday to Sunday (including public holidays):
11:30 to 13:00 (2 visitors at any one time)
15:00 to 20:00 (2 visitors at any one time)

Special permits for visiting outside the established visiting hours may be given to relatives at the sole discretion of the Nursing Officer.

Contacting the ward:

In order to speak to the nurses in the ward, one may call on the telephone number 2545 3958 or 2545 3957. Nursing staff are not expected to give detailed medical information over the phone so as to protect patients’ rights to confidentiality.
