Medical Investigations and Treatment Unit (MITU)

Where is MITU?
Medical Investigations and Treatment Unit (also known as MITU) is located on the third floor of the brown D block, at Mater Die Hospital.

What is MITU?
Medical Investigations and Treatment Unit is a nurse led unit catering for all Medical Specialities. Patients referred to MITU have to be registered under the care of a Medical Consultant at Mater Die Hospital.
Medical Consultants refer patients to MITU for hospital-based treatment, procedures and investigations that can be administered and performed without the need for overnight admission of the patient prior to or following the intervention.
The unit will operate from 07:00 to 19:00 hours with seventeen (17) appointment slots at a time.
One relative can accompany the patient.

Who will look after me?
A team of nurses managed by Ms. Mary Grace Cardona, Charge Nurse, who is assisted by Deputy Charge Nurse Ms Romina Schembri​, will care for the patient whilst in the unit. Doctors will be called if their assistance is needed.

Contacting the ward
In order to speak to the nurses on the ward, one may call on telephone number 2545 6000. Nursing staff are not expected to give detailed medical information over the phone so as to protect patients’ rights to confidentiality.
