Where is Obstetrics Ward 2?
Obstetrics Ward 2 is found in the green block on the ground floor.

What is Obstetrics Ward 2?
Obs 2 is a specialised 19 bedded female ward dealing with antenatal and gynaecological cases. It caters for mothers between the 22nd week and the 40th week of pregnancy who are admitted for investigations and treatment for any medical condition.

This ward also nurses mothers with early pregnancy aliments such as heartburn, hyper emesis, hyperacidity, anaemia in pregnancy etc.

Couples who are at risk of experiencing a miscarriage are also supported at this ward. The staff offers empathy to the couple and their immediate families through this difficult time with the help of the support/bereavement midwife.

Also situated on Obs 2 is the Emergency/Admission room (which operates on a 24/7 hour basis) where all emergencies pertaining to Obs and Gynae are seen after having registered through A&E. Patients are admitted to this ward either as emergency cases referred from the Emergency department and examined on the Admission room, direct admissions referred by consultants or from Out Patients department or as elective cases.
Mothers beyond the 22 weeks gestation, need not go through A&E department but are to go directly to CDS with their Co-op card (Blue card).
Who will look after me?
A team of midwives and nurses managed by Ms Astrid Zarb, Charge Midwife, who is assisted by h Ms Mariella Chetcuti will care for the patient whilst on the ward. 
The consultants who may have patients in this ward include: Prof Y. Muscat Baron, who is also the head of department, Mr. AP Scerri, Mr M Formosa, Mr.Pace, Mr J. Thake, Mr A. Vella, Ms. C. Portelli, Mr. M Sant, Ms I. Saliba and Mr. Dingli

Meal times
Patients have the opportunity to order their lunch and dinner from an established menu. A staff member will consult with patients in the morning so the order is taken. The food that will be ordered will be for the next day.

Breakfast: 7.30am to 9am – served in the ‘Day room’
Lunch: 11.30am to 12.30pm – served individually near the bedside
Dinner: 5.30pm to 6.30pm – served individually near the bedside.
Visiting times
Monday to Sunday (including public holidays):
10.00 – 20.00 (1 relative can accompany the patient continuously)
16:00 - 20.00 (2 other visitors and children, excluding husbands/parents/guardians)

Special permits for visiting outside the established visiting hours may be given to relatives at the discretion of the Charge Midwife.

In order to speak to the nurses on the ward, one may call on telephone number 2545 5162. The nursing staff are not expected to give detailed medical information over the phone to protect patients’ rights to confidentiality.
