What is Orthopaedic Ward 3?

Orthopaedic Ward 3 is a 20 bedded mixed orthopaedic ward that deals with acute orthopaedic conditions. Patients are admitted to this ward from the Emergency Department and also as direct admissions for treatment.
Admissions to the ward are on alternate day basis in conjunction with Orthopaedic 1.

Who will look after me?

A team of nurses managed by Mr. Rupert Buttigieg, Charge Nurse, who is assisted by his deputy Ms. Rosanne Debono, will care for the patient whilst in the ward. Other team members include physiotherapists, occupational therapists, care workers and a social worker.

The Orthopaedic Consultants who may have patients in this ward are Mr. M. Abela, Mr. T. Azzopardi, Mr. J. Borg, Mr. I . Esposito, Mr. R. Gatt, Mr. J. Zammit, Mr. J. Casaletto, Mr. M. Portelli, and Mr. R. Giordmaina​.

Meal times

Patients have the opportunity of ordering their lunch and dinner from an established menu. A staff member will go around the patients in the morning so the order is taken. The food that will be ordered will be for the next day.

Breakfast: 7.30am to 8am
Lunch: 11.30am to 12.30pm
Dinner: 5.30pm to 6.30pm

Visiting times 

Official visiting times are:
Monday to Sunday (including public holidays):
11:30 to 13:00 (2 visitors at any one time)
15:00 to 20:00 (2 visitors at any one time)

Special permits for visiting outside the established visiting hours may be given to relatives on the discretion of the Nursing Officer.
Being a surgical ward where surgical and traumatic wounds are ever present, visitors are encouraged to avoid overcrowding and also to use the alcoholic hand rub provided. This is to prevent cross infection.

To speak to the nurses on the ward, one may call on 2545 5210 or 2545 5217 - nursing staff will not give detailed medical information over the phone to protect patients’ right to confidentiality.
