The Pathology Department's reception area is located along the south corridor at level -1.
Opening Hours
Monday to Friday: 7:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Saturday: 7.30 a.m. – 12.30 p.m.
Out of these hours, the Pathology Department operates on an urgent basis only.
Services
The Pathology Department offers the full range of services that are generally required by the clinician. The Department’s test list consists of about 600 different tests that are carried out at its Mater Dei Hospital Laboratories as well as a large number of specialized tests that are subcontracted to our overseas supplier. The complete test menu consists of about 1700 tests.
Most tests take only a few days to be carried out but some require longer time to process. Testing of an urgent nature is carried out 24x7.
Tests can only be requested by hospital, health centre, or family physicians, who will order the appropriate tests after examining the patient. Patients can thus opt to go either through their private General Practitioner, through a Health Centre GP Clinic or through Hospital Outpatients’ Clinic (by appointment) to get the necessary testing carried out.
Other services
Patients at Mater Dei Hospital wards are bled by the Pathology Department’s phlebotomists.

Patients are encouraged to contact either their doctor or the Health Centre where they were seen to enquire about test results.
Patients may also access results through the
myHealth system if they are subscribed to this system and they are linked to a doctor through this system who sees and releases their results to them.
Note: The Pathology Department will not divulge any information about tests and results to patients.
