Where is Surgical Ward 5?

Surgical Ward 5 is located on the third floor of the blue block.

What is Surgical Ward 5?

Surgical Ward 5 is a 24 bedded mixed ward that deals with Endocrine, Upper GI tract, and Hepato-Biliary surgery. Patients are admitted to this ward through the Emergency Department/SOP, and also as elective admissions for surgery.

Who will look after me?

A team of nurses managed by Mr. Marco Mamo, Nursing Officer, who is assisted by his deputy Mr. Rennie Tanti, will care for the patient whilst in the ward. All the Consultant Surgeons may have patients in this ward.

Meal times

Patients have the opportunity of ordering their lunch and dinner for the next day from an established menu. A staff member will go around the patients in the morning so the order is taken. Patients admitted after ordering time, or if their eating status has been changed, may order their meal as required.

Breakfast: 7.30am to 8am
Lunch: 11.30am to 12.30pm
Dinner: 5.30pm to 6.30pm

Visiting times  

Official visiting times are:
Monday to Sunday (including public holidays):
11:30 to 13:00 (2 visitors at any one time)
15:00 to 20:00 (2 visitors at any one time)

Special permits for visiting outside the established visiting hours may be given to relatives on the discretion of the Nursing Officer.

Bed-side facilities

All patient beds are supplied with an interactive TV screen. Patients are kindly asked to request for headphone-sets provided by the supplier, for private listening, and to avoid disturbing other patients. Other information may be obtained from the customer care contact number on-screen. Before discharge a member of the ‘VOLSERV’ team may assist patients to fill-out the MDH questionnaire.

To speak to the nurses on the ward, one may call on 2545 7050 or 2545 7051 – nursing staff will not give detailed medical information over the phone to protect patients’ right to confidentiality.
