Description
Stationary and Ambulatory ECG (Electrocardiography) services in Mater Dei Hospital. This service is dynamic and is not appointment organised.
Procedure
This service is provided against a request form in all designated areas of MDH and this has to be duly filled from Physician. Walking In-patients who are not yet provided with a bed can be sent directly to ECG department in level -1 green with a filled request form from Physician. Out patients who are not going to be admitted are to be sent to ECG out patient at level 1 Out Patients Department.
Eligibility
Patients who are being seen by Physicians in Mater Dei Hospital or who have appointments and one of the investigative procedures is ECG. Minors should be accompanied by adults being next of kin or custodian.
Required Documents
Request form by a registered Physician and ID card.
Back Office Process
Statistical information is only kept as ECG tracing are only printed on paper and given to patient or ward nurse/doctor. In the event of query dangerous positive findings on ECG test, the technician informs the professionals for immediate action.
Frequently Asked Questions
Question: I am an out patient but my doctor will see me in the ward as I need an operation (or further investigations) what department should I use? The in patient or out patients?
Answer: If you were sent from an out patient department for your convenience you should use the ECG Out Patients on 1st floor out patients. Please note that on Saturdays this department is closed and you should use the In Patient facility. If you were sent from the In Patient block you should use the In Patient facility at -1 green.
Question: I have a hairy chest, Do I need to shave?
Answer: No need to shave your chest as we can do that. If you prefer to do it yourself please do not use oily gels or creams.
Question: I use frequent lotions. Should I skip on the day of the test?
Answer: Yes please. Lotions and creams block detach ECG electrodes from your body. Please try to avaoid use at least on the day of the test.
Question: I take daily medications. Shall I stop or change prior to test?
Answer: NO, please take advice from your physician if in any case you need to stop medication for any test done.
Question: What shall I do with the test after this is handed to me by the technician?
Answer: You should take the test immediately to the Physician/Doctor. Please refrain from taking the test outside hospital. The hospital will not be held accountable if for any reason you fail to show the test to the doctor by taking it home or elsewhere.
