Birkirkara Health Centre

These clinics are equipped to treat and manage patients who present with a variety of musculoskeletal disorders of an acute or chronic nature.
All patients who are referred are examined and assessed by a registered physiotherapist. Analysis of this detailed assessment will allow for an appropriate treatment plan to be formulated. All treatment plans are discussed with the patient under treatment.
The most commonly used treatment modalities are manual therapy, exercise therapy, electrotherapy and heat and cold therapy.
All treatment programmes include advice and education regarding self care and management of the presenting condition within the context of the patient’s normal activities.
Patient referrals are accepted from General Practitioners working in both Primary Health Care Centres and in private practices.
The physiotherapy clinics are managed on a strict appointment system.
Movement & Physical Activity Classes
Classes are aimed at individuals who are experiencing general decreased mobility and balance of a musculoskeletal origin that has no profound neurological cause. Clients suffering from other musculoskeletal conditions should continue to be referred for physiotherapy treatment.
These classes promote generalised exercises to decrease stiffness, increase muscle power and balance with the aim of preventing falls.
Referrals to determine if client is eligible for these classes can be made by General Practitioners, Lifestyle clinic nurses and Primary Health Care physiotherapists through a formal Ticket of Referral (TOR), an online TOR or by sending an email at Physical Activity Programme at Health-Primary Health Care.
The client will be given an appointment to assess their level of mobility and fitness. If client is eligible and suitable for the classes he will be invited to join the programme. The programme will comprise of 6 morning sessions which will be delivered in groups of 10 clients over the span of 6 consecutive weeks.
