Description

Where is the Physiotherapy Department located at MDH and how can it be reached?

The Physiotherapy Department is located on the ground floor, along the south corridor just beyond the Hospital Chapel. It shares reception and waiting room facilities with the Occupational Therapy and Speech and Language Therapy Departments.

What does the Physiotherapy Department do?

The Physiotherapy Department at MDH provides services to both inpatients and outpatients. It also acts as a reception point for patients who are referred from outpatient consultant clinics and the Accident and Emergency department. It works in close collaboration with other physiotherapy services and departments across Malta and Gozo.

Inpatient services

The physiotherapy services to the inpatient wards are organised on the basis of clinical teams. The teams
provide a service to all the wards at MDH and are identified as follows:

Critical care and cardiac services team

Referral of inpatients for physiotherapy is a collaborative procedure between medical, nursing and physiotherapy staff. Physiotherapists provide treatment during the acute phase of a patient’s stay in hospital. Early rehabilitation to facilitate discharge home or to prepare for further rehabilitation in an inpatient or outpatient setting is an important role carried out by physiotherapists at MDH.
