Where is the Physiotherapy Department located and how can it be reached?

The Paediatric Physiotherapy services are located in the premises of Child Development and Assessment Unit and function in close collaboration with the CDAU, multidisciplinary team. This department can be accessed either through St Luke’s hospital in G’Mangia or through another entrance from Zammit Clapp street in Pieta.

What does the Paediatric Physiotherapy Out-Patient Service do?

  • The Staff at the Paediatric Physiotherapy Department provide client with an assessment on their physical ability / gross motor development.
  • They keep a child friendly environment as much as possible
  • They Formulate a rehabilitation and management plan aimed at achieving  the maximum potential that the child may have
  • They support , inform and involve parents and /or carers and provide know how, for home management
  • They liaise with the referring source and  provide feedback and updates to VCC / Specialised clinics

Children with disability , caused by Neurological conditions such as:

  • Erb’s Palsy
  • Spina Bifida
  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Pre and Post Simple Dorsal Rysotomy
  • Pre and Post Multi-level surgery
  • Muscular Dystrophies
  • Various Syndromes
  • Global Developmental Delays

Orthopaedic and Traumatic conditions are referred to MDH, Paediatric Physiotherapy Dept

Referral Policy
Doctors / Consultants from Health Centres,  MDH , Private Clinics, Schools can refer

Services Offered  

  • Out -patient clients from age 0 to 16  years; Assessments and follow up according to needs
  • Services provided to San Miguel School
  • Services provided to Helen Keller School
  • Home Visits
  • School Visits in Mainstream / Church / Private / Special Schools
  • Participation and Involvement in the Multidisciplinary Team at CDAU.
  • Attendances/ involvement to VCC / MDH clinics
  • Wheelchair/ supportive equipment clinics at ILC
  • Combined Sessions with other professionals
  • IEP’s
  • Participation in “Kenn Ghal Sahhtek” at Mtarfa, for clients (adolescents) suffering from eating disorders, classified or unclassified.​
