Emerging and Vector-Borne Diseases

An emerging disease is one that has appeared in a population for the first time, or that may have existed previously but its rapidly increasing in incidence or geographic range.

A vector-borne disease is one in which the pathogenic microorganism is transmitted from an infected individual to another individual by an arthopod or another agent, sometimes with other animals serving as  intermediary hosts.

Common vectors are arthopods such as ticks or mosquitoes.
