Management of Outbreaks

Reports of outbreaks are forwarded to the Department for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention. Outbreak control teams are set up to investigate and follow up outbreaks for timely control measures to be taken. Reports are usually collated at central level through faxed or original reports delivered by hand. Follow-up is done centrally by the Infectious Disease Prevention and Control Unit officials. Most investigations deal with outbreaks of food-borne disease, particularly Salmonella, Campylobacter, toxic and unspecified (other bacteria and viruses) causes of diarrhoea.
