Memorandum with Local Councils

A Memorandum of understanding was signed between the  Local Council Association and the National Blood Transfusion Service.  The President of the Association, Mr. M. Fava stated that one of the associations’ policies is to give back to the community.  So, as the demand for blood donations is on the increase, the Local Councils were encouraged to start helping the National Blood Transfusion Department by promoting blood donation, mainly by organizing groups of people to give blood at the main collection sites in Malta and Gozo.  Moreover, blood donation sessions can be organized in their respective locality as part of the activities to commemorate the annual village day.  By this more blood bags will be collected to help those in need.  In return, the Local Council Association will award the three Local Councils with the highest number of donations.

Deputy Prime Minister and Health Minister Dr. Chris Fearne said that donating is the best form of generosity a citizen can provide and that the signing of this Memorandum is a step forward to promoting the importance of blood donors within their localities. Read more
