World Blood Donors Day

World Blood Donor Day, is celebrated on the 14th of June every year.  This day serves to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products and to thank voluntary unpaid blood donors for their life-saving gifts of blood. A slogan/theme is selected every year which will focus on the value of donating blood to the patient, not only in saving life, but also in helping people live longer and more productive lives.

In Malta this day is celebrated as well.  For these last years the President of Malta has honoured several donors who donated blood regularly by given them a recognition award.

More information about this day can be obtained form the World Health Organization website.
