Recruitment to fill vacancies in the healthcare professions follows rules and regulation which govern the whole public service. Call for applications may be external or internal.
External posts/positions are open to the general public and are published in the Government Gazette, Government of Malta web portal, Public Service Recruitment Portal or on the Join the Public Service mobile application which may be downloaded from the Google Play Store or App Store.
Internal posts/positions are open to serving public officers normally who are already in the particular career stream, are advertised on the Public Service Recruitment Portal, on the Join the Public Service mobile application or through circulars published with the Ministries.
As a general rule, appointments issued following calls for posts are on an indefinite basis while those following calls for positions are on contractual basis for a definite period. Eligibility criteria and conditions for posts and positions are regulated by official agreements which cover the specific stream.
Also, in most cases, calls for posts/positions in the healthcare professions include in the respective eligible criteria, as a prerequisite, the registration with the respective profession council in Malta, prior to application, unless otherwise stipulated in the call.
