Improving Medical Use in Older People

The Improving Medical Use in Older People Conference was held on the 29th October 2013 at The Westin Dragonara Resort, St. Julian's.

This multidisciplinary conference was primarily aimed at increasing awareness on issues related to medication use in older persons.

It was of interest to all healthcare professionals working with or caring for older persons, whether actively involved in prescribing, dispensing or administering medications or diagnosing, treating or otherwise dealing with the unwanted effects of medication.

The Conference included a key note presentation from Dr Denis O’Mahony, one of the pioneers of the START/STOPP screening tools, as well as a number of short interventions from local experts aimed at provoking and challenging current behaviour and practices.

Active participation in the afternoon interactive multidisciplinary workshops lead to an interdisciplinary consensus position statement and recommendations for action.
