The 70+ Delivery Scheme

The +70 Domiciliary Delivery Service

A personalised patient-centric service  addressing the needs arising from the growing ageing population living in the community.  This Service is being offered free of charge from the community pharmacies participating in the POYC Scheme in agreement between the Government, the GRTU and the Malta Chamber of Pharmacists.

Intent – Service of Excellence

1. To provide a more holistic, and bespoke pharmaceutical service to all eligible patients.

2. To ensure that these patients would continue to benefit from a holistic professional service of their pharmacist of choice even when they are not able to go to the pharmacy to collect their treatment.

3. To increase the patients’ personal control and choice, enabling the elderly to stay independent for longer.

4. To guarantee a faster and more convenient care for our patients.

Eligibility

1.  70 year old and over patients and those with difficulty in mobility.

Patients with mobility problems are also eligible to benefit from the Scheme on presentation of their Special ID Card issued from the National Commission for Persons with Disability (Malta)

2.  The 70+ Domiciliary Delivery Scheme (DDS) is not mandatory (for patients / pharmacies)

3.  Domiciliary delivery service is according to patients’ needs on collection due date time at the patient’s home.

Expected Added Value

1. Optimum patients’ treatment accessibility and focused professional advice through a ground-breaking approach (1st for Malta).

2. Enhance a holistic and timelier access to treatment to eligible patients at the time when they are feeling most vulnerable.

3. Enhance the one to one patient-pharmacist professional relationship.

4. Decreased burden on next of kin : Respite to carers of the elderly / patients with disability without moving the patients out of their domiciliary comfort.

5. Possibly reduce incidence of winter related illness which may eventually keep patients out of hospitals or lessen the burden on hospital stays

6. Simplification: Applications for registration are available from the community pharmacies.
